Player signing announcements begin for 2022 roster

The Disco Turkeys began announcing 2022 signings this month with the five players announced so far including two valuable returning players, along with a trio of talented newcomers.

The club will continue announcing its player signings over the next several weeks as the calendar moves closer to the 2022 season that is slated to begin in late May. The team will also soon be announcing its 2022 game schedule.

Returning players announced thus far include right-handed pitchers Garrett Leftwich, a 6-foot-5, hard-throwing product of Southwest Virginia Community College, and Ben Taneman of Maine’s Husson University. Both players pitched for the Disco Turkeys at the AAABA Tournament last year in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and will bring strong tournament experience to the Disco Turkeys' 2022 pitching staff. Taneman led the team last season in innings pitched (44.1) across appearances as both a starter and reliever.

A talented fresh face joining the rotation this year who was announced last week is freshman right-hander Jordan Fisher, who is pitching this spring with the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Fisher hails from the Charlotte area.

Position players announced thus far include infielder Max Gustafson of Division 1 Bryant University, one of the top mid-major programs in the Northeast, and catcher Jonathan Barham of UNC Pembroke.

Barham is known as a strong bat and has played previously in the Coastal Plain League with the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms and spent last year playing at College of Charleston.

The Disco Turkeys plan to continue with more signing announcements beginning next week.
