WE'RE very EXCITED FOR YEAR 3 of the Carolina Disco Turkeys THIS SUMMER!
The Disco Turkeys are one of the most popular summer collegiate baseball teams in the Southeast.
We offer America's pastime, cold beer, and affordable, family friendly entertainment much like our longer-tenured Truist Stadium roommates, the Winston-Salem Dash. This season we'll be playing many of our home games at Couch Ballpark at Wake Forest University and will be playing a July 4 Weekend series at Bowman Gray Stadium.
The Disco Turkeys are the biggest hit around and without question boast the coolest and most loyal fans in North Carolina!
FAQs
DO you play exclusively disco music at your games?
No. However, we reserve the right to slip some disco music over the speakers as needed.
What is a disco turkey?
A disco turkey is what we call peacocks in the Triad region of North Carolina.
And, therefore, we try to bring home some glory for what we think to be the world's most evocative animal. Disco turkeys are national bird of India and, in the South, show up in the work of writer Flannery O'Connor who kept some on her farm.
Are beer and concessions available at your games?
Yes, of course! Beers and soft drink options are the same as those available at Winston-Salem Dash games. We use the Dash's concessions partner and they provide a variety of food options, including ballpark staples like hot dogs, chicken finger baskets, popcorn and a variety of other options depending on the game.
What does "open seating" mean?
All our tickets are open seating, meaning fans can sit anywhere that's open on the lower bowl when they arrive at the ballpark. Yes, if you're early you can even sit right behind home plate for right around 10 bucks!
Do I have to buy my baby a ticket when I take the family out to a game?
No, kids 3 years old and under receive complimentary admission.
Do I have to pay to park?
Not always, but sometimes. Some of our venues reserve the right to charge a small parking fee should crowd size projections require it.
Who are your players?
We're very excited about our roster this year for our third season!
Our players come to us each year from large and small colleges. Division 1 schools represented in our three-year history include Wake Forest, East Carolina, Appalachian State, Rice, High Point, UNC Asheville, Campbell, George Mason, Tennessee Tech, Bryant, Hofstra, Samford and others. They also have come from elite Division II and small-college programs, including Catawba, UNC Pembroke, defending NAIA national champions Georgia Gwinnett, and others.
Where can I find Carolina Disco Turkeys merchandise, including Disco Turkeys t-shirts, hats, replica jerseys, season tickets, and more?
The only place online where you can find officially-licensed Carolina Disco Turkeys merchandise is through the "SHOP" tab on this website. Official merchandise is also sold at all Disco Turkeys home games! If it's not a game day, you can also find merchandise in downtown Winston-Salem at Mast General Store.
Do your players use metal bats?
Of course not! We use wooden bats, which make the game experience very akin to a minor league professional game. Also, unlike some leagues, we don't use composite bats.
PRAISE FOR THE DISCO TURKEYS:
“The term ‘Disco turkey’ is more or less the ‘trash panda’ of the peacock world, but also doubles as a play on ‘jive turkey.' Here you have a decked out, disco, Travolta-esque peacock, with a disco plume, pointing not only like it’s dancing, but like Babe Ruth calling his shot. It’s goofy, it’s sassy — and I love it so much.”–James Dator, SB Nation
“The ‘Disco Turkeys’ might be the best team name/logo in all of sports” –@MLBONFOX
“The collegiate summer level Carolina Disco Turkeys have made a significant splash in their first season. The team’s brand, loosely based on Major League uniforms from the ’70s and ’80s—along with a mascot that’s part Disco Stu and all peacock—has been almost universally well received on social media and in merchandise sales.” –Paul Caputo, SportsLogos.net
“The first-year franchise has gotten a lot of positive attention in Johnstown with its sparkling player-of-the-game jacket, turkey call, comedic antics, visit to meet the hillside Bomb Squad and — of course — peacock logo” –Dave Sutor, The Tribune-Democrat (Johnstown, Pennsylvania)
