Disco Turkeys to host 1st-annual “Wedlocks and Headlocks” baseball-marriage-wrestling event

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (6/19/24) – Have you ever considered getting married or renewing your vows at a baseball game or a pro wrestling event?

This month, you could have your ceremony at both on the same night.

The Carolina Disco Turkeys will be reviving an iconic 70s baseball promo concept aptly called “Wedlocks & Headlocks” where they’ll have pre-game weddings or vow renewals followed by in-game and post-game wrestling, presented by King-based wrestling promoters Alpha Underground, during a home baseball game.

The baseball that day will begin with the Carolina Disco Turkeys facing the Uwharrie Wampus Cats at 6 p.m. The final wrestling match will take place at the game’s conclusion.

Fans interested in tying the knot before the game or renewing their vows can contact Disco Turkeys team president Greg Sullivan at greg@discoturkeys.com.

“We’re not sure how many couples we’ll have come out to participate, but it’s guaranteed to be memorable and a great story to tell your friends for years to come if you come do it,” Sullivan said. “The wrestling component to the night is also a first for us. We can’t wait for that either and may have to get the two teams’ head coaches involved in a match or the mascots.

“All are welcome for marriages or vow renewal and we’d love to have several people come be a part of the event.”

At an Atlanta Braves game in 1976, 34 couples were married on the field. The Disco Turkeys regularly put their own spin on Disco-era culture, such as previous games wearing shorts as part of their uniform like 70s White Sox teams.

Upcoming games

In addition to the excitement of the Wedlocks & Headlocks Night, the Disco Turkeys have several more promos coming up.

The biggest of those will be their Independence Day post-game fireworks show on July 4. Their game will be the largest venue in the Triad hosting a July 4 fireworks show this summer as the Winston-SalemDash, Grasshoppers and Rockers.

“We’re expecting a great crowd and an amazing night,” Sullivan said. “We have free parking until first pitch at our game. General admission tickets are $10 and there are reserved ticket options. Word has gotten out with how good our fireworks show was last July 4 that we’re the place to be for baseball and fireworks in the area.”
