Disco Turkeys to finish season with home games this weekend

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (7/27/23) -- The Carolina Disco Turkeys have had easily their best season yet on the field. The third-year summer wood-bat team is 21-10-1 on the summer as they prepare for their final two home games this weekend at Wake Forest University's Couch Ballpark.

The Disco Turkeys will host the semi-pro Greensboro Yard Goats on Friday night for a Beach Party Night game and will host their rival summer collegiate squad, the Uwharrie Wampus Cats, on Saturday night. Both games begin at 6:30 and tickets are $9 with free parking.

The setting for the last two Disco Turkeys games will be a familiar one for Winston-Salem baseball fans. Wake Forest’s baseball team swept through NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals matchups at Couch Ballpark in the spring. The facility also previously hosted minor league baseball in the summer for generations when it was known as Ernie Shore Field. The Disco Turkeys have split home games across multiple Winston-Salem stadiums but have played most frequently at Couch Ballpark this summer.

“It's been a fun year,” said team president Greg Sullivan. “We got to play a few games over at Bowman Gray Stadium earlier this month and that got us a lot of headlines. But Couch Ballpark has been incredible for our players and our fans have enjoyed coming out there too. The ballpark has a lot of history to it and it's just a great place to catch a game.”

The Disco Turkeys have been on the road quite a bit in recent weeks with trips to places like Wilmington, Edenton, NC, and Rock Hill, SC to play against tough competition.

"I know this group of players is excited to get back and interact with our home fans one last time for the summer," Sullivan said.
