Disco Turkeys to bring back manager for second year

The Carolina Disco Turkeys and Head Coach Kirk Cabana have reached an agreement for Cabana to return as the team’s head coach for the 2022 season.

Before guiding the Disco Turkeys during their inaugural season in 2021, Cabana previously served as a head coach in the Puerto Rico Collegiate League and spent 2020 as an assistant coach with the Coastal Plain League's High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms. During the school season, he serves as a full-time assistant coach at Carolina University.

"We're excited to have Coach Cabana returning to our team next season," said Disco Turkeys team president and co-owner Greg Sullivan. "His energy and enthusiasm are an ideal fit for our organization and players have responded really well to his leadership style."

After a slow start on the field this summer, the Disco Turkeys went 7-4 over their final 11 games. The team also made a strong impression in the Winston-Salem area and garnered national media attention with their fun brand of baseball that hinges on fan engagement. The team showcases a peacock mascot, plays disco for batter walk-up music, and players and coaches regularly interact with fans. The Disco Turkeys also closed out their first season with an impressive first showing at the historic AAABA Tournament in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and advanced out of pool play.

“Something special started this summer here in Winston with the Disco Turkeys, and I’m honored to be back as manager to help bring the fans and players an even better experience with this coming year,” Cabana said. “Just wait and see what we have in store.”
