Disco Turkeys to become 'Yacht Rockers' for July game

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (4/25/24) -- You may have heard of switch hitters, but the Carolina Disco Turkeys will switch up music genres for their home game on July 5 this summer.

The Disco Turkeys will play that game as the Carolina Yacht Rockers at Wake Forest University's Couch Ballpark. Tickets for the game-concert event will be $10 and will go on sale next week.

Along with the 6:30 p.m. baseball game will be a yacht rock concert by the David Grogan Band, a classic rock cover band based in Walnut Cove, which will explore the lighter side of its offerings for the night. The band has even worked some Journey into their set for the occasion.

The Disco Turkeys, er Yacht Rockers, will be facing the Disco Turkeys' SCBL foe the Queen City Corndogs in the game.

Along with the live yacht rock music and yacht rock played on the ballpark speakers that night, the team will wear special Yacht Rocker uniforms.

The Disco Turkeys have previously fielded a split squad with a Winston-Salem Moravians identity in past years, but this will mark the first year the Disco Turkeys will have played under alternate names for select home games. This is the first of two such identities the team will be launching prior to the season. Another will be announced next month ahead of the team's opener on May 24. The Disco Turkeys play 18 home games in Winston-Salem this summer in their first year in the MLB-backed Southern Collegiate Baseball League. Season tickets recently went on sale for $80.

Yacht Rockers merchandise, including 4 t-shirt designs and a hat can now be purchased at shopdiscoturkeys.com.

"Our organization and our players always welcome fun new things we can do, and we're very excited to take the field as the Yacht Rockers for a game this summer and see how much fun we can have with it," team owner and president Greg Sullivan said.

The Disco Turkeys have 10 of their games at Wake Forest's Couch Ballpark, including the opener, a Fourth of July game and the special Yacht Rockers debut. The team unveiled their new logos and uniform designs to media on Thursday.
