Disco Turkeys open home schedule this weekend at Truist

Saturday will be a rare cat night billed as the 2nd-annual Cat-urday Night Fever game

The Carolina Disco Turkeys open their home schedule this Friday and Saturday nights with games at Truist Stadium.

The Disco Turkeys’ original home opener on May 27 was rained out. Now, they’ll open at home with a match-up against the Wake Forest Fungo from Wake County, North Carolina on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and a game on Saturday night. Tickets are $9 in advance and $10 at the gate.

On Saturday, the Disco Turkeys welcome the Uwharrie Wampus Cats at 6:30 in a game that will be their second-annual Cat-urday Night Fever game with a portion of ticket proceeds benefitting Forsyth Humane Society.

“Last year, we had one of our best turnouts of the season on our cat night,” said Disco Turkeys team president Greg Sullivan. “There are very few cat nights around the country and even fewer groups that came back and did it again the next year, but we loved the enthusiasm from our fans, many wearing special cat ears they bought from the Humane Society and getting into the spirit of the event.”

Fans wishing to bring their cat must bring them on a leash or in a carrier. The Mad Cattah, a Carolina Panthers super fan who lives in the area known for his cool costumes, will also be a part of the festivities for the second year in a row and throw out the first pitch.

The Disco Turkeys have a collegiate wood-bat roster of players ranging from Division 1 to JUCO. The team added some strong signings right at the beginning of the season this year, including North Carolina A&T’s Devon Rodriguez and returner Bentley Yeatts, who played last year at UNC Asheville but recently announced he’ll be transferring to Longwood.

“We’re expecting great games this weekend,” Sullivan said. “We didn’t get to play a few games early on due to weather or in some cases other teams being behind with stadium upgrades. We’re excited to have ramped up our season the past few days and to play some big early games now at home in front of our fun-loving fans.”
