Disco Turkeys begin third season this Saturday

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (May 25, 2023) -- The Carolina Disco Turkeys open their summer this weekend with a Saturday night match-up with new rival, the Uwharrie Wampus Cats, at Truist Stadium.

The 6:30 p.m. game is the first of several at Winston-Salem stadium sites this summer for the Disco Turkeys, now in their third season. The popular local collegiate wood-bat club will play their first few home games at Truist Stadium this year and for the first time will also play games at Wake Forest’s Couch Ballpark and a special Fourth of July Weekend series at Bowman Gray Stadium.

“We’re very excited to get started again and I know our fans and players are looking forward to all the venues this year,” said team president and co-owner Greg Sullivan. “We’ve got the best all-around roster we’ve had, featuring a lot of returners with new talent, and like us they can’t wait to interact again with the fans.”

Tickets for most home games are open seating and $9 in advance or $10 at the gate. The team also has high-profile away match-ups this year with the Wilmington Sharks, Asheboro ZooKeepers, Martinsville Mustangs, Boone Bigfoots and others.

Players this season include Pirmin Brechbuhl, who played for Wake Forest in 2022 and was among the top players for last year’s Disco Turkeys team. They have also added North Carolina A&T starting middle infielder Devon Rodriguez as well as CJ Johnson, who played summer ball for the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms in 2021 and was among their leaders with 9 home runs on the summer. Samford’s Nico Noto is also a key returner for the Disco Turkeys at shortstop and came on strong late last summer with 5 homers over the last few weeks for the team.

“This year’s team is made up of many athletes who are key players at their respective schools,” Sullivan said. “We’ve got guys who’ve been with us all three years and we’ve also got guys we’ve gone out and found and we’re really excited about them too.”
