Disco Turkeys beat Brooklyn to advance to knockout rounds

JOHNSTOWN, PA – The Carolina Disco Turkeys got a strong pitching performance from starter Matthew Scavotto and got the bats going late in a 7-5 win over the Brooklyn Cougars that sent the Disco Turkeys to the knockout rounds of the tournament.

After going 2-1 in pool play, the Disco Turkeys have now earned a primetime match-up on Thursday night against Paul Carpenter Capital Advisors, the top Johnstown team, at 7 p.m. The quarterfinal game with a local opponent will likely draw thousands of fans in a tournament where Johnstown’s Opening Night game had over 5,500 in attendance this week.

"The excitement of winning this game is centered around the goal we set for ourselves,” Disco Turkeys head coach Kirk Cabana said. “We set a goal to get out of pool play and play in the big stadium. Now we get the chance to get on that stage and play against the hometown team and we couldn’t ask for more in our first AAABA experience.”

The Disco Turkeys scored 2 runs in the sixth inning and 4 runs in the seventh on Wednesday to stretch their lead to 7-1. Bryson Bebber had three RBIs and Dane Stewart added a pair of RBIs in the win. Logan Conklin added three hits.

Scavotto, a lefty from Brevard, went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. Scavotto’s Brevard teammate, Zane Beaver, finished out the tight victory.
